Dr. Alex Mushikita Nkandu
Cancer Palliative Care Initiative Problem Statement

Cancer is emerging as one of leading causes of death in Zambia, with many patients diagnosed at advanced stages. Comprehensive palliative care services are inadequate, leaving many patients to suffer without relief. Access to essential palliative care is limited, highlighting the urgent need for a programme that provides comfort and support to those facing the end of life.

Dr. Alex Mushikita Nkandu Cancer Palliative Care Initiative

The Dr. Alex Mushikita Nkandu Palliative Care Initiative is a holistic program dedicated to providing palliative care and support to cancer patients in Zambia. Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Alex Mushikita Nkandu, one of Zambia’s pioneering oncologists, the initiative seeks to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Through training, community outreach, and advocacy, the initiative aims to raise awareness and improve access to palliative care services in Zambia.
